Dr. Chou was born in Taiwan and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. During her high school years, Dr. Chou received the “Class Spirit of the Year” award. She was also the School of Dentistry Class Representative in her final year of Dental School, where she organised many class and school social events. In her spare time, Dr. Chou enjoys keeping fit and cooking up a storm. She is best described as “friendly, easy-going, kind and generous”.

What is a Periodontist?
A periodontist is a dental specialist in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal (gum) diseases, and in the surgical placement and management of dental implants. A periodontist is a fully qualified dentist that has completed an additional three year full-time post-graduate degree in periodontology and advanced surgical training.
Professional Qualifications
Dr. Chou completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2002. Prior to embarking upon her specialist training, Dr. Chou practised as a general dentist in Sydney, Gold Coast and as a clinical tutor at the University of Otago Dental School. In 2006, Patty commenced the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) at the University of Sydney. She then accepted an offer from the University of Otago to specialise in Periodontics. In 2009, Dr. Chou received her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Periodontology and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the specialist stream of Periodontics.

Dr. Chou is proficient in all aspects of Periodontics so her patients have access to a variety of treatment options for the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease. Dr. Chou is experienced in cosmetic periodontal surgery, hard and soft tissue grafting and implant dentistry. Having a keen eye for detail, Dr. Chou has a special interest in cosmetic periodontal surgery, dental implantology and multi-disciplinary cases. Dr. Chou is also fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. Dr. Chou believes in providing her patients the highest level of care. Dr. Chou is gentle, caring and empathetic in nature. Her emphasis is on understanding the needs and concerns of her patients whilst striving for clinical excellence. Dr. Chou is dedicated to life-long learning and participating in ongoing continuing education to ensure her patients receive the most up-to-date treatment approaches. As well as being a proficient clinical periodontist, Dr. Chou remains active in publishing clinical and research papers. She has published a chapter in Oral Biology and is currently writing articles for peer-reviewed journal from her thesis titled “The Effect of Nicotine on Gingival Fibroblasts”.
